The kind of opportunities that are available for transgender people is not the same for heterosexual individuals. Transgenders have to fight for everything, and in doing so, they either come out to be successful or will have to begin right where they started. Due to such turn of events, their life revolves around hardships and various other aspects. But there are people who stand up to the fight and achieve the very best. So today, we decided to look at one such couple who have made their entry into business.
India’s Story of Hope
- Premkumaran and L. Preethisha have come a long way from where it all started. Prem, a trans man from Erode, drove for Uber in order to be able to meet his financial commitments. On the other hand, Preethisha hails from Kalyanipuram in Tirunelveli. Before venturing into business, she used to do small roles in films and also worked as a delivery person for Uber Eats. They got married in 2018 and have tried different business ventures to earn a living.
Initially, they tried selling organic oil as they considered the business to be blooming. But that did not quite hit the mark as people were unwilling to buy organic products, claiming it to be costly. Due to that, the couple began thinking about other ways to earn a living, and that is when they came up with the idea of a tea-cum-snacks shop on Kaliamman Koil Street in Virugambakkam, Chennai.
The Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna, who lent them a helping hand with the organic business, came in again and provided them with a microloan of 50,000 each. And thus, the couple went ahead to start their own venture.
The Business Venture
As a team stall-cum snacks center, the couple will be selling tea, juice, soup, and bread in the morning. Apart from that, it will also offer different types of organic food items in the evening. With all these options, customers will be hit with choice, and they can choose all they need. As time passes by, the couple also wants to add ice creams and tender coconut that stand to be the perfect choice for a summer delight.
With all this in hand, the venture stands to be a successful one that has also been giving them a lot of confidence. As one among the first transgender couples in India, G. Premkumaran and L. Preethisha is here to change things and do it for the better. Apart from ensuring that the business is moving ahead, they have also been prompt in repaying their loan as they don’t want to have any debt.
Having received two loans, they wish to clear the first loan as soon as possible. While the Rotary Club of Madras Chenna Patna has been offering soft loans leading to the amount of 25,000, they recently enhanced the amount to 50,000. Their financial help and support have been going out to vendors, hairstyle stand food makers, cart vendors, and so on. Preethisha and Premkumaran were the first to receive a sum of 1 Lakh from the organization.
Conclusion
The different ways of society can be advantageous for some, and it can also be disadvantageous for others. Regardless, we need to fight back and ensure that we get all that we need from life. A story about a transgender couple starting up a business in India is not something that we get to hear on a daily basis. But when we do get to hear it, we need to appreciate it and look into ways through which more such people rise and come up in life.
So with that positive outlook towards life, it is time to bid adieu with the hope that this story of truth inspires you to achieve a lot more than you had imagined.
